The PowerSight MEM2 Expanded Memory Option for the PS4550 and PS4500 quadruples the internal RAM (4X the memory). We recommend you buy this option when you purchase your analyzer to insure that you have plenty of storage for intensive power quality studies.

The PowerSight analyzer, without MEM2 has plenty of storage for the longest power consumption study you will likely ever consider. Normal power monitoring data includes 68 different measurement parameters in each record of the log. The memory without the MEM2 is sufficient to perform a 90 day power study with complete redundancy (15 minute log interval), or 6 days with a 1 minute log interval, or over 2 hours with a 1 second log interval.

However, when coupled with power quality monitoring, the demand for memory can be significantly more. On the one hand, if no power quality events are triggered, then no extra memory is needed. On the other hand, when triggered events occur, they need part of the memory resources. High speed capture of waveforms and 1/2 cycle RMS captures of swells/sags over a 10 second length require significant amounts of memory. The safe solution is to have the MEM2 option already loaded on your analyzer.
