The PHABRIX PHRXO-BDA Dolby Analysis Software option displays Dolby E, Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus meta data present in a selected audio stream and determines whether the Dolby packet, embedded in the SDI video stream, is timed correctly.

Dolby E, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus are audio encoding and decoding technologies developed by Dolby Laboratories.

Dolby E supports up to 8 channels of lossless compressed audio (mono, stereo, 5.1 or 7.1) for a primary programme and optional ancillary programs. This option allows analysis of programme types such as Dolby 7.1 (which uses eight channels to provide surround sound) that is in common use.

Dolby Digital (AC3) supports up to six channels of lossy compressed audio (mono, stereo or 5.1) that form a single 'program'. This option allows analysis of Dolby 5.1 (which uses all six channels to provide surround sound) that is in daily use.

Dolby Digital Plus supports up to 20 channels of lossless compressed audio (mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1 up to 13.1) and optional ancillary programs. This option allows analysis of programme types such as Dolby 7.1 (which uses eight channels to provide surround sound) that is in common use.

Checks can be made to see that the Dolby packet has been created correctly and transferred transparently, unaffected by routers/switchers, satellite links, etc.

The Dolby metadata screen carries primary information including signal source, Dolby ‘guard band’ timing, CRC errors, program channel and metadata detail. Details are shown in white when Dolby data is present on the input.
