The Megger MOM3 KIT 3 (BK-30291) Kit combines the MOM3 Handheld Micro-Ohmmeter with a set of standard test leads, the GA-00390/GA-00392 Test Cables with Kelvin Clamps (1.3m/3m), and other accessories. The MOM3 Handheld Micro-Ohmmeter is a high-current instrument designed with ease of use, versatility, and safety in mind.
Being rugged, lightweight, and handheld makes the MOM3 suitable for fieldwork. With the carrying strap, users can bring the instrument closer to even hard-to-reach test objects. The strong rubber body makes the instrument extra durable in the event that it is dropped.
The MOM3 is designed to enable a full day's work of testing without needing to recharge the battery. This instrument can store more than 2000 test values and transfer test data via USB-C to the user's PC.
The MOM3 uses two ultracapacitors to generate the current output. Due to the low internal resistance, the ultracapacitors are capable of instantaneous delivery of very high currents in which the MOM3 provides 300A up to 2 mΩ. With ample energy stored in the ultracapacitors, users can perform multiple tests in a very rapid sequence. The current output of the MOM3 is regulated and kept at the set value for the duration of the test time.
With an ultra-short measurement time, the MOM3 does not heat up the measurement object and eliminates the need for bi-directional measurements otherwise commonly used in micro-ohm measurements.
Application Testing
The MOM3 test system is designed to serve several applications.
The most common tests are contact resistance measurements and connection checks for low, medium, and high voltage circuit breakers as well as for busbar joints and connections. The MOM3 is also ideal for all applications in which a low resistance needs to be verified such as in switches, disconnecting devices, safety ground connections, welding points, fuses, and cables.
If the measured resistance is abnormally high, this will lead to power loss and temperature rise which can lead to serious trouble. To avoid such problems, it is necessary to check the resistance at regular intervals.
At 10 kA, a resistance of 0.1 mΩ gives a power loss of 10 kW. This power loss at one single point will result in a rise in temperature, which may lead to overheating and premature failure.
