The AS-26 was developed to meet the rising need for a Bi-Directional Telephone Line Simulator. The AS-26 will allow either Telecommunication Device to "Ring Up" the other. The AS-26 provides a simulated ring back signal, to the Telecommunication Device that initiates the call, during each ring to the other Telecommunication Device. The AS-26 has an adjustable dial tone option, that allows you to select from no dial tone to a maximum of six seconds of dial tone, before the unit rings up the other Telecommunication Device. The As-26 also provides you with a Bi-Directional Audio jack for recording high quality audio into a Telecommunication Device, or for recording your voice information to tape. The AS-26 even provides you with "wink" disconnect in one direction, to assure you of fast disconnect.
To activate the AS-26, simply take either TD1 or TD2 off hook. The AS-26 will ring up the other TD with an interrupted ring signal, while also giving the initiating TD a simulated ring back signal to indicate each ring. Once both TD's are off hook, you will have talk battery and you can perform any function you would normally do on any standard telephone company line (except for hook flash). When you finish, simply place the initiating TD back on hook; if the call was initiated from TD1, then the AS-26 will issue a wink disconnect signal on TD2 (Note: The wink signal only goes from TD1 to TD2.)
To record high quality audio onto a Voice Card from a tape, connect the audio jack from the AS-26 to the headphones output of any standard portable tape recorder. Connect a telephone to the jack labeled Telephone, and the Voice Card to the jack labeled Voice Card. Take the telephone off hook; when the AS-26 connects you to the Voice Card, set the Voice Card to record, the play some of the message from the tape. Now play back the message from the Voice Card and check it for audio level and clarity. Make any adjustments necessary, then repeat the prior steps until the play back from the Voice Card sounds great, then you can record the entire message. Hint: To reduce the background noise from the office, you can use a local telephone that has a mute button, or if the telephone's touch tone key pad is not part of the handset, you can just unplug the handset cord from the handset during the recording process. When you're finished, just place the telephone back on hook, and that's it.
To make a tape archive of your messages, simple connect the audio jack from the AS-26 to the microphone input on any standard portable tape recorder. Connect a telephone to the jack labeled telephone, and the Voice Card to the jack labeled Voice Card. Take the telephone off hook; when the AS-26 connects you to the Voice Card, just place the tape recorder in the record mode and play the messages back. When you're finished, just place the telephone back on hook, and that's it.
The AS-26 has two, internal, computer type jumpers that are used to adjust the dial tone option of the unit. The available options are no dial tone, 2 seconds of dial tone, 4 seconds of dial tone, and 6 seconds of dial tone. If you chose no dial tone, the AS-26 will instantly start to ring up the other TD when one of the TD's goes off hook; any other option, the unit will provide the dial tone and then wait 3 seconds before starting the ring up process. To adjust the dial tone option, open the unit, pull the shorting blocks off of the computer jumpers J1 and J2, place the shorting blocks on the jumpers for the desired setting, then reassemble the unit.
