The Importance of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance

Plants prepare their facilities for planned repairs in order to minimize downtime. There are preventive maintenance programs and predictive maintenance programs. In both cases, production lines, facilities equipment and key machinery is inspected, tested and replaced in order to catch problems before they cause failures that have higher costs associated with them than the cost of being proactive. Predictive maintenance is ongoing; preventive maintenance usually involves a planned shutdown to accomplish. These programs involve a complex set of records and systems to maintain.

Areas examined during typical electrical maintenance program:

  • "Hot spots" throughout electrical distribution
  • Insulation breakdown of motors, transformers and wiring integrity of critical power wiring in generation systems (power plants and alternate energy sites)
  • Connections in switchgear, electrical cabinets and throughout the electrical distribution runs
  • Substation equipment - testing circuit breakers
  • Ground systems checked for proper wire sizing, harmonics levels, and ground path integrity
  • Critical motors tested and inspected so they can be replaced in planned fashion rather than in breakdown condition

DLRO2 Ducter Low Resistance Ohmmeter

The DLRO2 hand-held 2A low resistance ohmmeter provides fast, accurate, repeatable measurements - even in electrically noisy locations. The DLRO2 is equipped with a difference meter functionality that allows repetitive measurements to be easily compared with an initial reference measurement. The difference meter also translates the percentage difference to a needle/pointer movement, making the changes clear to see. In addition, the DLRO2 allows users to view three results on the screen at any time, making it ideal for 3-phase systems.

LOW RESISTANCE TESTING WITH LONG TEST LEADS: If applications require long test leads, then the DLRO2 can provide this without compromising test speed or safety. It has a dedicated long lead test mode to optimize the output, and this long test lead function can provide up to 1A of test current into 4 ohms resistance. The DLRO2, with its optional cable reel test leads, is therefore ideal for testing wind turbine and avionic lightning protection applications.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Aviation
  • Wind turbines
  • Rail, tram and underground
  • Marine
  • Oil and gas pipelines
  • Automotive and EV
  • Cable manufacturers
  • Component manufacturers
  • Space exploration and engineering
  • Data centers
  • Panel/Switchgear manufacturers
  • Robotics
  • Electrical infrastructure

MIT400/2 CAT IV Insulation Testers

The MIT400/2 insulation and continuity testers are designed for electrical and industrial testing. In addition, they have an exceptionally wide range of applications in electrical installations, cable testing, motor testing, automotive, ESD, panel building, avionics, maintenance etc.

INSULATION RESISTANCE TESTING: The stabilized insulation test voltage is now accurate to +2% -0%. This compares to the industry standard +20%, providing a more accurate test voltage without the risk of over-voltage damage to circuits or components. The output voltage is maintained between 0 and 2% throughout the test range.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Commercial avionics
  • Military land, marine and air communications
  • Manufacturing/Production line goods
  • Electrostatic measurement
  • Component testing
  • Battery powered traction and lifting equipment

DLRO 10X Digital Microhmmeter

The DLRO 10X Digital Microhmmeter is a fully automatic instrument, selecting the most suitable test current, up to 10 A dc to measure resistance from 0.1 µΩ to 2000 Ω on one of seven ranges. For users who desire more control over the measurement process, DLRO 10X uses a menu system controlled by a two-axis paddle to allow manual selection of the test current. DLRO10X also adds real-time download of results and on-board storage for later download to a PC.
